Kyshawn George played one season at Miami, averaged 7.6 points per game and entered the league as a 6-foot-8 wing whose strongest skill was his 3-point shot.

Washington saw enough in him to trade for the No. 24 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft and make George the first Miami first-round selection since Lonnie Walker IV in 2018.

Kyshawn George's rookie season

George appeared in 68 games and made 38 starts during the 2024-25 season, averaging 8.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 26.5 minutes per game. He finished 37.2% from the field and 32.2% from three-point range.

The Wizards used him as a wing defender, a spot-up shooter and, at times, a secondary ball-handler.

He made 114 three-pointers, reached 100 in his 59th NBA game and became the fastest rookie in Wizards history to hit that mark. George also set the franchise rookie record by making at least one 3-pointer in 31 straight games.

He also put up 68 steals and 50 blocks for the season. That made him one of four rookies in NBA history to reach at least 100 made three-pointers, 60 steals and 50 blocks in the same season, joining Shane Battier, Jayson Tatum and Victor Wembanyama.

Kyshawn George's second season and beyond

His second season continued the promise and showed what he could do with a full offseason under his belt. George raised his scoring average to 14.8 points while adding 5.1 rebounds and 4.5 assists before a left elbow injury ended his 2025-26 campaign early.

Washington exercised his 2026-27 team option before his second season ended. The elbow will be the first question entering the fall, but the Wizards expect George to make a full recovery for 2026-27.

The Wizards already have Anthony Davis and Trae Young, plus Alex Sarr, Bilal Coulibaly, Bub Carrington, Tre Johnson, Will Riley and Cam Whitmore. They also own the No. 1 overall pick, along with picks No. 51 and No. 60 in the 2026 draft. So once he is back, the bigger question will be how much more responsibility Washington gives him.
