There are plenty of Miami Hurricanes fans who are still pretty fired up over Ethan O'Connor committing to the program on Saturday. While the secondary was a major concern for Miami this offseason, head man Mario Cristobal is on his grind in fixing things. He's not done either.
Moving forward, a player to continue to keep an eye on would be Xavier Lucas, a former 4-star signee with the Wisconsin Badgers. Lucas is an exciting young talent, but he's looking to continue his playing career elsewhere. Interestingly enough, his name has popped up on Wisconsin's transfer portal page and the predictions are still in favor of Miami. Could something get done soon?
Miami is very much in play for Wisconsin defensive back Xavier Lucas
While Lucas is yet to announce that he's officially in the portal, multiple reports have stated that things could be finalized in the coming days - while 247 has hinted things are done. Not only that, but Lucas could look to make a quick decision on his next stop.
He has been linked to Miami from the moment he announced his intentions to leave Madison. However, Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell and the program have blocked Lucas from entering the portal. Things got so bad there, Lucas took to social media to inform everyone that Wisconsin had failed to submit his paperwork.
Wisconsin as a whole has been getting called out left and right over this. With Miami, the team has landed portal commitments from cornerbacks O'Connor, Charles Brantley and Emmanuel Karnley. Adding Lucas to the mix would be huge for Cristobal, especially since he also is versatile and could play safety if needed.
It has been a long process for Lucas, but it looks like there's a light at the end of the tunnel here for him. It's unknown if he'll end up signing with Miami, but don't be surprised if/when it happens. Landing Lucas would be yet another big help for the secondary in 2025.
