It's been a busy 24 hours for the Miami Hurricanes in the transfer portal, with some touted playmakers announcing their intentions to play for head man Mario Cristobal. Previously, tight end Alex Bauman and offensive lineman James Brockermeyer committed to the Hurricanes.

Now, though, there's a defensive playmaker for Miami fans to get excited about. That'd be cornerback Ethan O'Connor. After a breakout season for the Washington State Cougars in 2024, O'Connor entered the portal and quickly started receiving recruiting attention. He has made up his mind on Saturday, with Coral Gables being his next stop:

O'Connor indeed looked sharp for Wazzu this past season, finishing with 32 total tackles and four interceptions. His campaign was no question highlighted by his pick-six on the road against Fresno State, which helped the Cougs pull off a come-from-behind victory.

Since deciding to transfer, O'Connor heard from UCLA, Georgia, Oklahoma and other programs. In the end, though, Cristobal was able to post yet another solid recruiting victory to land the redshirt freshman cornerback.

O'Connor will have three years of eligibility remaining too, which means he has plenty of time to grow and make plays for Miami. The questions begs, however. Who will his defensive coordinator end up being once he suits up for the Canes?

This is a call Cristobal is yet to make, but fans everywhere are sitting on pins and needles waiting to see what he decides. Regardless of that, some key additions for the secondary are on the way via the portal, with O'Connor's latest decision certainly firing up the fanbase as a whole.
