And just like that, there's immediately another homegrown prospect that Miami and Mario Cristobal could end up landing soon. For the 2027 class, the Canes hold four commitments, with each playmaker being from Florida.

The Canes are of course going all-in for several other local talents and someone new to keep a close eye on would definitely be cornerback Quartavius Lyons. Originally, the 6-1, 165-pounder was going to sign with his school of choice as a member of the '28 haul.

Instead, news broke over the weekend that Lyons has reclassified to '27, making him one of the top CBs in the country for his class. With him being a stud for Miami Central High, Cristobal and his staff have of course been in on him for a little while. Now, the Canes will look to take the next step in trying to land him:

Quartavius Lyons reclassifying to 2027 could prove to be gold for Miami

As noted by Rivals' EJ Holland, Miami is in the lead for the youngster. Despite only being a high school sophomore, Lyons has picked up 25 offers this cycle, with Miami, Florida State, Florida, Kentucky, Auburn, Nebraska, Tennessee, SMU and many others putting a ride on the table.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Lyons is ranked four stars, the No. 5 CB in the country and No. 48 prospect nationally. There's a reason Miami is showing such serious interest - the kid is a big-time talent and he's going to be ready to make plenty of noise at the next level.

Will he become a lockdown cornerback in the ACC for Cristobal, Corey Hetherman and the Canes? We don't know the answer to that question just yet, but Miami is in a strong position to get things done here. With Lyons being a local playmaker too, it's safe to assume that Cristobal will bring him in to check out a spring practice.

The Canes are expected to grow the number of verbals they have on board for '27 in the coming weeks with spring ball almost here. Lyons wasn't expected to sign with a team until December '27, but he'll now be doing so a year earlier than we anticipated. Again, that could prove to be good news for Miami.
