Malachi Toney had 10 receptions for 122 yards and one touchdown in the 27-21 National Championship Game loss by Miami to Indiana on Monday night. Toney finished the 2025 season with 109 receptions for 1,211 yards. Both of those are Miami records.

Toney passed Charleston Rambo, who previously set the Miami single-season record with 1,172 receiving yards during the 2021 season. With another season like he had in 2025, Toney will break the Miami career reception record held by Xavier Restrepo with 200 catches from 2020 through 2024.

Restrepo also holds the Miami career record with 2,844 receiving yards. Toney had arguably the greatest freshman season in Miami history and, without question the best year for a Hurricanes receiver.

In just one season, Toney is 18th in Miami history for career receptions and 43rd in career receiving yards. The 10 receiving TDs Toney had in 2025 are tied for the fourth-best in Miami single-season history and rank 30th in a Hurricanes' career.

Reaching milestones

Toney obliterated the Miami freshmen record of 49 receptions and 934 receiving yards set by Ahmmon Richards in 2016. In addition to being an elite receiver, Toney added 23 carries for 113 yards and one TD and 23 punt returns for 298 yards.

Toney finished first nationally in receptions and fifth in receiving yards. The star freshman also concluded the season winning the ACC triple crown by leading the conference in receptions, receiving yards and receiving TD.

Toney became the first player from Miami to win the ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year and Rookie of the Year since quarterback Tyler Van Dyke in 2021. Toney is 13th at +2700 in the FanDuel Sportsbook 2026 Heisman Trophy odds. Jeremiah Smith of Ohio State at +1100 is the only WR ahead of Toney in the 2026 Heisman Trophy odds.

Entering 2026, the Miami offensive foundation will be built around Toney and running back Mark Fletcher Jr. Toney should be a 2026 preseason All-American. By the end of his career, Toney should become the most prolific WR in Miami history.
