Once again, Malachi Toney is doing Malachi Toney things.
What can we say about the Miami Hurricanes superstar that hasn't already been said? He came into Saturday's game against Pitt needing just 31 yards to pass the 2,000-yard mark for his career. Challenge accepted and then some. Toney had a first half to remember alone against the Panthers, grabbing 12 catches for 159 yards and a couple of touchdowns. There's simply nothing you can do to stop Toney, who has looked incredible with the ball in his hands this season.

Toney's second touchdown, a 52-yard catch-and-run, was just a great individual effort of him breaking multiple tackles. He's also been Darian Mensah's favorite target on third downs.
"He brings everything," Mario Cristobal said about Toney's incredible first half vs. Pitt. "Everything in his heart and soul all the time. He's always depended upon and counted upon."
Malachi Toney passes the 2,000-yard mark for the season in the first half vs. Pitt
Toney is quickly climbing up the all-time receiving yards mark for the Hurricanes. By the end of the game, he could catch Stacy Coley (2,222 yards) to get to sixth on the all-time list. The record is held by Xavier Restrepo (2,844) and that's in jeopardy of being broken this season!
Think about that for a second. It took four years for Restrepo to reach that mark and Toney might pass him in two seasons. That's crazy to think about. What's crazier is that Toney had a remarkable freshman season. He set a single-season record for catches (109) and yards (1,211) as an 18-year-old WR, and now he could hold all the receiving records for Miami before he turns 20.Â
This is also the third time Toney has recorded at least 12 catches in a game this season. He set a single-game record with 12 catches for 234 yards against Stanford in the opener and had 12 catches for 114 yards against Wake Forest in Week 3. Last week against FSU, he only had 11 catches for 154 yards.Â
It's hard to fathom that there would be a greater wide receiver at Miami than Michael Irvin. The "Playmaker's" status as one of the greatest to ever suit up is secure. And other greats like Santana Moss and Reggie Wayne are right there, but Toney has to be placed in that group. We're 23 games into his career, and it's not a stretch to put him on Mount Rushmore among the greatest Miami wide receivers of all time.
