Malachi Toney had 13 receptions for 126 receiving yards and one touchdown on Saturday to set the Miami single-season freshman yardage record. Ahmmon Richards previously held the Miami freshman records with 49 receptions and 934 receiving yards set in 2016.
Toney set the single-season freshman reception record in the 26-20 overtime loss at SMU. After his performance at Pittsburgh, Toney concludes the regular season with 84 receptions for 970 yards and seven TDs, 17 carries for 89 yards and a TD and completed four passes in six attempts for 82 yards and two TDs.
Toney tied the Miami single-game receptions record against Pittsburgh. Mike Harley previously held the Miami record with 13 receptions against Duke in 2021. The game against Pittsburgh was Toney's fourth 100-yard game of the 2025 season.
Richards also had four games over 100 receiving yards as a freshman in 2016. The standard for Richards as a freshman was 144 receiving yards on eight receptions in a 51-28 win over Pittsburgh. Toney set career highs with 12 receptions for 144 yards last week at Virginia Tech.

Toney can become the most prolific Miami receiver ever
Toney is getting close to the Miami single-season record. Xavier Restrepo set the Miami single-season record with 85 receptions in 2023. Charleston Rambo set the Miami single-season record with 1,172 receiving yards set during the 2021 season.
At the pace he is on, Toney will shatter the Miami career reception and receiving yardage records if he stays at least three seasons with the Hurricanes. Restrepo set the career records in 2024 with 200 receptions and 2,844 receiving yards. Toney should easily pass 1,000 yards in the first Miami postseason game.
Toney is a lock for first-team Freshman All-American and the ACC Rookie of the Year and Offensive Rookie of the Year. There is the possibility for Toney to earn first-team All-ACC and potentially be named to the general All-American team.
