Talk about things changing in a FLASH. On Wednesday, hearts broke all over Coral Gables when it was revealed that freshman running back and in-state playmaker Girard Pringle Jr. was going to say goodbye to Miami and enter the transfer portal.
Another in-state Miami freshman enters the portal in biggest blow yet for the Canes
Apparently, Mario Cristobal learned of this and wasn't going to go down without a fight. Thankfully, it looks like Pringle is going to stay with The U where he belongs. In a welcome twist to this story, Hayes Fawcett just broke the news that Pringle has had a change of heart and he won't be transferring after all. Boom:

Miami RB Girard Pringle Jr. has reportedly withdrawn from the transfer portal
This past season for Miami, Pringle turned heads as a baby-faced freshman, carrying the ball 62 times for 375 yards and four touchdowns. When his intentions of transferring first surfaced, the assumption was that he wanted to look for an RB1 role elsewhere.
Next fall, Mark Fletcher Jr. is going to continue to be the main leader for the RBs room, but knowing that Pringle is also going to be back is huge for this offense. It's not fully known who will be handing the ball to the running backs as a whole, but barring a stunner, it looks like Darian Mensah will be getting that job
Knowing Pringle isn't going anywhere is a relief for a lot of Miami supporters, especially those who were wondering about Alabama and Kalen DeBoer potentially making a move. Thankfully, though, it looks like Miami and Pringle's camp were able to get on the same page Thursday and iron things out.
After finishing as the national runner-up for the 2025 season, expectations are going to be massive for Miami in '26. While Pringle won't be the featured back, he'll still look to make a sizable difference for Shannon Dawson and Co. With him being a Florida product too, keeping him in his home state makes things all the better for Cristobal. Not to worry, Miami fans... Pringle is staying put.
