Miami head coach Mario Cristobal told Kris Budden of ESPN that he feels like he is in court defending a case that never should have been brought to court in the first place if we were solely looking at the facts. Budden is in Coral Gables for the College Football Playoff bracket reveal.

Cristobal made the rounds in the media all week, stating the case for Miami to be in the College Football Playoff. The CFP committee finally rewarded Miami for its 27-24 win over Notre Dame, as they stated throughout the process that they would if the teams were ranked side-by-side.

Cristobal defended his case in the court of public opinion. CFP committee chair Hunter Yurachek told Rece Davis of ESPN that they thought Notre Dame was better than BYU and deserved to be ranked higher than the Cougars.

Yurachek continued that the committee thought BYU deserved to be ranked higher than Miami entering the conference championship games. After BYU lost 34-7 to Texas Tech in the Big XII Championship game, the committee felt Miami should be ranked ahead of the Cougars.

BYU falling put Miami and Notre Dame next to each other in the CFP rankings. Yuracheck said that is when head-to-head mattered with Miami and Notre Dame sitting at 10 and 11 in their polls. Cristobal and Miami finally received the result that they wanted and deserved.

Miami and Notre Dame were nearly even in the ESPN Football Power Index analytics. The Hurricanes controlled the majority of the game against the Fighting Irish. Miami led 21-7 entering the fourth quarter before Notre Dame rallied to tie the game at 24.

Carter Davis kicked a 47-yard field goal with 1:04 left in the game to put Miami ahead. The Miami defense took over on Notre Dame's last drive to earn the win. Miami asserted its dominance with physicality on the final drive that ultimately led to earning a CFP berth.
