On a recent appearance with Bussin' With The Boys, Miami head coach Mario Cristobal described what it was like when No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward first entered the building.

"Well the best story was he got here [Coral Gables] and we really needed an alpha at quarterback..."
Mario Cristobal

Cristobal mentioned that when Ward first got to Miami he wanted all of the wide receivers' phone numbers so he could get some routes in on the first Saturday. He gets them all rounded up except for one and the one WR hit him up with a "big time attitude" about how he was in Fort Lauderdale throwing with Lamar Jackson. Cristobal said that Ward essentially layed down the law after that. Ward pretty much told the receiver that he would't be throwing him the ball during the season and jokingly remarked that Jackson better be able to get him the ball if he wants to be involved. That WR — he went unnamed — ended up driving down to run routes with Ward and the rest of the WR's that Saturday.

Ward proceeded to have the most prolific QB season in college football in 2024, throwing for 4,313 yards and 39 TDs. After the year he declared for the draft and is now the franchise QB (or at least that is the hope) for the Tennessee Titans.

Ward has started all five games for the Titans and is 1–4 after engineering a fourth-quarter comeback to beat the Arizona Cardinals. He is 85-of-164 passing (51.8%) for 879 yards, 2 TD, 3 INT, with a 64.1 passer rating on the 2025 NFL season.
