Miami is still trying to make things interesting with one of the best players in the 2027 recruiting class. But, for now, RB Kemon Spell is not giving the Hurricanes much room to work with.
Spell and his family continue to hear from Miami, but the five-star Georgia running back commit remains locked in with the Bulldogs and has refuted any plans to entertain the Hurricanes. That is a stiff arm for Mario Cristobal and Miami, but it also shows how the Hurricanes are operating on the trail. They are not waiting for elite players to reopen the door, instead they are knocking on the door anyway.

Mario Cristobal's latest Georgia flip attempt runs into a wall
Spell has been committed to Georgia since Feb. 2. He is the No. 7 overall player, No. 1 running back and No. 2 player in Pennsylvania in the 2027 class in the 247Sports rankings. The 247Sports Composite has him at No. 6 overall while keeping him as the No. 1 running back in the country.
Spell backed off a long Penn State commitment in October after James Franklin was fired, then considered several major programs before choosing Georgia. Miami was among the schools that remained in the picture after his Penn State decommitment, along with Georgia, Florida State, Michigan, Notre Dame and USC.
Spell ran for 1,755 yards and 28 touchdowns as a junior and rushed for 1,681 yards and 24 touchdowns as a sophomore.
Cristobal has had some success making Georgia uncomfortable in recent cycles. Miami flipped 2027 five-star cornerback Donte Wright, 2026 wide receiver Vance Spafford and 2026 cornerback Jontavius Wyman from the Bulldogs.
Spafford was the longest-tenured 2026 commit before switching to Miami. Wright just recently flipped to the Canes earlier in May and is a big reason why Miami's 2027 class vaulted into the top five nationally.
