The Miami Hurricanes are active in this week's five-star recruiting watch and the big target is Chicago-area defensive lineman David Folorunsho.

Folorunsho will make his decision Friday with the Hurricanes and Notre Dame as the two primary contenders with Michigan, Texas Tech and Georgia still in the picture and working to pull a shocker in the 11th hour.

On3/Rivals' Miami insider EJ Holland was on "The Inside Scoop" webcast with Josh Newberg and said that the optimism is high around Coral Gables.

"I still think there's optimism. Miami has put in a lot of work. They've seen him on the road. The other thing about Folorunsho is that he's a very quiet kid. He's not giving away a ton of hints," Holland said.

Miami is still in the hunt for 5-star defensive lineman David Folorunsho

After this weekend's surprise flip of five-star defensive back Donte Wright, there's not a single recruitment in the country that you can count out Mario Cristobal. This is a crucial recruitment for Notre Dame because Folorunsho is right in the Irish backyard. Marcus Freeman considers Chicago as a prime recruiting footprint for Notre Dame and has landed many players from the city over the years.

But the Hurricanes aren't unfamiliar with landing major recruits out of Chicago. Defensive lineman Justin Scott and pass rusher Marquise Lightfoot are two players on the current roster from the area and MIami's top quarterback commit in the 2027 class, four-star Israel Abrams, is from nearby Arlington Heights.

"Folorunsho has several ties to Notre Dame and Chicago is a priority recruiting ground for the Irish, but at the same time, Miami has found success there," Holland added. "Miami has done a great job of recruiting Chicago. They've been able to pull those kids to the warmer weather and the more fun place of Miami, as opposed to more dreary South Bend."

Folorunsho visited Miami during the week of the spring game and said that the Hurricanes were his top school coming out of that visit. The top defensive line prospect out of the Midwest hasn't disclosed a schedule of official visits yet, so Friday's announcement will be a big deal in case he decides to shut things down.
