There is no question that the Miami Hurricanes are on the tip of every top recruit's tongue. The best prospects in the country are flocking to Coral Gables this spring to see what Mario Cristobal's program is about.
Cristobal is gearing up for a massive recruiting weekend, but Thursday is proving to be just as important for the Hurricanes as their top target on defense, five-star edge rusher DJ Jacobs, is in the building and checking things out with his younger brother, Dawson, a highly-touted prospect in the class of the 2028.Â

To say that Jacobs is coveted by the Miami staff is probably an understatement. Cristobal and defensive ends coach Jason Taylor view the elite prospect from the Atlanta suburbs as a major building block for future Hurricane defenses. It was believed that the Hurricanes had a great shot at getting Jacobs' commitment back in late December, but Ohio State came through at the end and got the pledge.
The good news is that we're a long way away from December and there's no way Cristobal is going to back down on this recruitment until the ink dries on Jacobs' letter of intent.Â

Despite Jacobs' commitment to Ohio State, he made it clear that his recruitment would not end, and he was going to see everything he wanted to see. Miami, Texas and Texas A&M have also been in the mix for a long time. Each program vying for Jacobs should be considered a threat, but Miami might be considered the favorite. Jacobs has always been high on the Hurricanes and spoke them up after last season's win over the Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl.
"Miami always gets after it. A lot of pressures and a lot of sacks. They did good. They're attacking full-on. Even on run plays, they're getting push back," Jacobs said to Gaby Urrutia of 247Sports at the time.
Jacobs also told Urrutia that he thought Miami could've won a national championship. The Hurricanes fell a little short, but there's no doubt that Cristobal and Taylor will try to convince Jacobs that he is the missing piece to their ultimate goal.Â
