Elite 2027 signal-caller Israel Abrams announced his commitment to Miami on Friday on "The Pat McAfee Show," giving Mario Cristobal and Shannon Dawson a massive win at the most important position on the field.
Israel Abrams gives Miami a blue-chip quarterback centerpiece
Abrams entered announcement day as one of the most coveted quarterbacks in the 2027 class. On3's Industry Ranking slots the Montini Catholic standout as the No. 3 quarterback nationally, while 247Sports ranks him even higher as the No. 2 quarterback in the cycle and the No. 14 overall prospect. His finalists included Auburn, Florida State, Kentucky, Miami and Purdue.
Abrams threw for more than 4,000 yards and 40 touchdowns against only six interceptions as a junior while leading Montini Catholic to a state title. He also added 224 rushing yards and 10 more scores.Â
Abrams has gone 24-0 as a varsity starter with back-to-back Illinois state championships, and he was named the 2025 MaxPreps Illinois Player of the Year after leading Montini Catholic to a 14-0 record and the Class 4A title.
Miami's QB situation moving forward
Miami has not stopped recruiting high school quarterbacks, even while leaning on the portal for its immediate answer at the position. In the 2026 class, the Hurricanes signed signal-caller Dereon Coleman, the lone quarterback in that group. Coleman and Abrams are likely to be the two QBs that will compete to be the future face of Miami.
Miami's recent short-term answer at quarterback has come from experienced transfers. Cam Ward arrived from Washington State for the 2024 season and went on to become the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft after setting Miami single-season records for passing yards, passing touchdowns and completion percentage. After that, Miami turned to Georgia transfer Carson Beck for 2025, and this spring the Hurricanes added Duke transfer Darian Mensah.
