Top Miami target DJ Jacobs and his younger brother Dawson Jacobs made their way to Hard Rock Stadium this past weekend to watch the Miami Hurricanes take care of Pitt.
The older Jacobs is pledged to Ohio State, but remains committed to seeing what he wants to see when he wants to see it. That's one of the perks of being a five-star recruit and the top-rated player in the 2027 class. Dawson Jacobs seems to be similar to his big brother in stature, talent, and in the professional way he's taking his recruitment.
It was Dawson that did most of the talking when he and his older brother spoke to CanesInSight about their experience at the game.
"Even though it wasn't like a big game, they were still ready to go," Dawson Jacobs said.
Dawson also mentioned that Ahmad Moten and Justin Scott were two players that he kept a close eye on during the game and he liked what he saw.
"I would say they are top defensive linemen in the whole nation. It stands out to me because that's what I look for and that's how I would be developed if I were to come here," Dawson added.
Miami continues its pursuit of DJ Jacobs and Dawson Jacobs
Dawson says that Miami, Tennessee, Ohio State, Oregon, and Nebraska are the schools that have been pursuing him the most. DJ Jacobs is already committed to the Buckeyes, while the Hurricanes and Volunteers are at the top of the list of schools trying to flip him.
It's natural to think that the brothers would love to be teammates, and it's a good bet that is how it will eventually shake out. But DJ Jacobs said that he and his brother have to make individual decisions, and suggested that his commitment to Ohio State doesn't mean that Dawson will immediately follow behind to be his teammate.
"If it's best for both of us, yes, but I've got to do what's best for me, and he's got to do what's best for him," DJ Jacobs said.
Miami is trying to close its 2027 class out with big flips
DJ Jacobs is at the top of the Miami flip list. He's joined there by five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews. It's a pretty ambitious way to close a class that already has multiple five-star recruits and the highest blue-chip ratio among the top classes in the country.
The 2027 class has a chance to be historic, not just by Miami standards, but in the history of recruiting since these players started getting ranked.
Miami remains appealing to these top players because the Hurricanes are competing for championships and because the coaching staff isn't afraid to put young players in crucial game situations. Some programs like to stack recruits only to fill the starting lineup with a ton of transfers. That's not Mario Cristobal's side and the numbers back it up.
USC is the only school in the country giving freshmen more snaps this year

1. USC - 2,675 (8 games)
2. Miami - 2,104
Young players come to Miami knowing that their development is paramount to the team's success. That's why Cristobal and GM Dennis Smith have had so much success re-building the program from the time they arrived in 2022. It's a program for playmakers and if the Jacobs brothers join the fold, Miami will take another step closer to being a program for champions.
