Miami Hurricanes athletic director Dan Radakovich appears ready to step down.
In a surprising development, Ross Dellenger at Yahoo! Sports records that Radakovich is planning on retiring from day-to-day operations of Hurricane athletics and stepping into an advisory role. Radakovich has been at the head of the Miami Hurricanes athletic program for the past five years and has overseen the hiring of football coach Mario Cristobal and men's basketball coach Jai Lucas, among others.Â

The school and Radakovich are finalizing an exit agreement for him to potentially remain as an advisor.
Reports have Miami AD Dan Radakovich ready to step down
Over the past five years, Radakoivch has been responsible for some major transformations within the structure of the athletic department to put the Miami Hurricanes in a position to be major players in the era of the NIL and transfer portal. One of his first major moves was firing Manny Diaz in 2021 after what was seen as a disappointing 7-5 season and hiring Mario Cristobal away from Oregon. After two lackluster seasons, Radakovich decided to stick with Cristobal and that move paid off with a 10-3 season in 2024 and a 13-win season in 2025 that saw the Hurricanes advance to the College Football Playoff championship game.Â
Miami Hurricanes basketball has also had plenty of success under Radakovich's watch. They advanced to the Elite Eight in 2022 and the Final Four in 2023 with Jim Larranaga at the helm. Larranaga, however, couldn't keep up with the major changes in college basketball and retired on December 26, 2024. Radakovich tabbed former Duke assistant Jai Lucas to run the program and in his first season the Hurricanes won 26 games and finished in the top four of the ACC.Â
Radakovich started his administrative career at Miami as the business manager for Hurricane athletes and has served as the athletic director at Clemson, Georgia Tech and American University. He also held administrative roles at LSU, Long Beach State and South Carolina.Â
There will be plenty of speculation about who the next Hurricanes AD will be, and I'd be shocked if the decision makers at the university haven't already been in contract with their primary target to replace Radakovich.
Radakovich has made a huge impact on Miami Hurricanes athletics and put them in a position where they will be a coveted part of any future expansion among power conferences.Â
