Class of 2027 edge rusher Jayvon Dawson committed to Miami on Sunday, offering the Hurricanes another front-seven piece. Dawson chose Miami over Georgia and North Carolina, adding to a day that already included the Hurricanes flipping elite cornerback Ai'King Hall from Oregon.

Miami lands 2027 edge Jayvon Dawson over Georgia and North Carolina

Dawson is a 215-pound edge defender from Santaluces Community High in Lake Worth, Florida.

The 247Sports Composite ranks Dawson as a three-star prospect, the No. 505 overall player, No. 43 edge rusher and No. 44 player in Florida in the 2027 cycle. The Rivals Industry Ranking has him No. 722 nationally, No. 64 at the LB position and No. 80 in Florida.

Dawson finished his 10-game junior season with 68 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, eight sacks, one pass breakup and one forced fumble.

Miami offered earlier this month, and it was a major turning point for the South Florida defender. Less than two weeks later, he was in the Hurricanes' class.

Dawson's commitment gives Miami 13 commitments in the 2027 class. In just over a week, the Hurricanes flipped five-star cornerback Donte Wright from Georgia, flipped Hall from Oregon and added Dawson over Georgia and North Carolina.

Just when Miami suffered a couple of recruiting losses and people began to doubt them, the Canes' staff puts together an impressive recruiting streak. Miami may miss out on some local South Florida prospects, but they have shown true ability to compete nationally on the recruiting trail.

Flipping players from Georgia and Oregon is no small feat, and that really just shows that the program is in a great spot, even when the doubters crawl out from time to time. Regardless of money, Miami is able to pick their spots and show up big when competing for elite recruits.
