Rob Evans dominated Stanford, Alvaro Alvarez hit two runs and a pair of doubles and the Cardinals gifted Miami multiple runs as the Hurricanes won 11-2 in the second round of the ACC Tournament on Wednesday. Miami advances to play Boston College on Thursday.

Evans pitched 7.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts. The 7.0 inning stint by Evans with only 90 pitches thrown significantly helps save the Miami bullpen for the rest of their ACC Tournament run. Alvarez finished with the four hits and drove in three runs.

Stanford led briefly when a J.J. Moran double scored Charlie Bates to give the Cardinal a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Alvarez answered immediately in the bottom of the second inning with the first of his two HRs to tie the game at one.

Miami added two more runs in the bottom of the second, with the third run scoring because of a Bates error. A Teddy Tokheim HR in the top of the third inning cut Stanford's deficit to 3-2. Miami pulled away by scoring two runs each in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings and one in the seventh and eighth.

Stanford miscues helped Miami

Stanford miscues greatly helped Miami throughout the game on Wednesday. Stanford threw four wild pitches and committed four errors. Miami could have scored more runs, but left nine men on base. The Hurricanes finished with 12 hits and walked five times.

Every other hitter in the Miami order finished with one hit each to complement the four-hit day by Alvarez. Stanford used seven pitchers in the loss. Jake Dorn pitched 1.1 scoreless innings for Miami. Packy BradleyCooney relieved Dorn and recorded the final two outs of the game for Miami.

Boston College received a double bye in the ACC Tournament. Georgia Tech, the top seed, outscored the Eagles 38-3 in a three-game sweep to conclude the regular season this past weekend. Boston College won two out of three games against Miami in Coral Gables in March.
