Miami plays Stanford in ACC Tournament opener with chance to improve NCAA seed

On the edge of a national seed Miami will have an opportunity to improve its resume against Stanford in the ACC Tournament opener for the Hurricanes on Wednesday.

Miami has an opportunity to improve its NCAA Tournament resume when they play Stanford in the second round of the ACC Tournament on Wednesday at 1 PM Eastern Daylight Time in Charlotte. Stanford beat California 11-4 to advance to play Miami. The Hurricanes had a first-round ACC Tournament bye.

Miami won 6-4 and 4-3 but lost 14-6 in a three-game series at Stanford in April. The series win at Stanford was the fifth consecutive for Miami during a streak of six straight series wins for the Hurricanes. Miami is the fifth seed in the 2026 ACC Tournament and Stanford is seeded 12th.

Miami finished the regular season with 36 wins and 17 losses and with 16 victories and 14 defeats in the ACC. Miami tied with Wake Forest for fifth place in the ACC. The Hurricanes beat the Demon Deacons two out of three in their series this season to win the tiebreaker.

Stanford has 28 wins and 25 losses after the win over California on Tuesday. The Cardinal finished the regular season with 13 wins and 17 losses in the ACC. Miami enters the game against Stanford 31st in the RPI and the Cardinal is 103rd. Stanford's season will end with a loss in the ACC Tournament.

Away from home in 2026

Miami has 11 wins and eight losses on the road in 2026. The game against Stanford is the first neutral-site game for Miami in 2026. Stanford is 6-10 on the road in 2026 and improved to 3-2 in neutral site games with the win over California on Wednesday.

Stanford broke open a game tied at one after three innings with two runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and four in the sixth inning to take a 10-1 lead. Stanford was unable to earn the 10-run rule victory with Cal and the Cardinal scoring one each in the seventh and the Golden Bears adding two in the ninth.

Stanford left fielder Jimmy Nati had three hits, drove in three runs and was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle on Tuesday. Eight Stanford batters had hits and scored runs on Tuesday against Cal. Stanford used six pitchers on Tuesday versus Cal.

Miami ace Rob Evans will start on Wednesday. Evans pitched 7.2 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and four walks with eight strikeouts against Stanford in April. The Miami bullpen allowed one unearned run in the 6.2 innings in the two wins at Stanford.

Stanford scored eight runs off of the Miami bullpen in 6.1 innings in their 14-6 loss. Miami closer Lyndon Glidewell pitched 2.0 scoreless innings against Stanford before he was moved into his current role. Starting pitchers Lazaro Collera and A.J. Ciscar struggled for Miami against Stanford.

Miami third baseman Daniel Cuvet had five hits in three games against Stanford. Cuvet remains day-to-day according to head coach J.D. Arteaga. Cuvet was expected to hit off of a tee on Tuesday. It does not sound like Cuvet will be ready to play against Stanford.
