Miami and Jai Lucas make it to the next round for 5-star PG Cayden Daughtry

Cayden Daughtry, a 5-star point guard from Fort Lauderdale's Calvary Christian announced a top 14 on Thursday, and the Miami Hurricanes are on it. Daughtry, the No. 10 overall prospect in the 2027 class in the Rivals Industry Rankings, listed Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Michigan, Providence, Tennessee, UConn, USC, Vanderbilt and Villanova as his remaining schools.

Daughtry has been to Miami and Michigan unofficially, and an official visit to Florida State is set for this weekend, with Iowa scheduled for the weekend of Sept. 12.

Over the summer he secured a gold medal for USA basketball and Peach Jam MVP honors. Daughtry averaged 32.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 6.1 assists at Peach Jam. That performance solidified his ranking and just about every team in the country was interested in his services.

What to look for with Cayden Daughtry's recruitment

Daughtry is a Fort Lauderdale product at Calvary Christian, and has three Florida schools in his final 14. Miami HC Jai Lucas has put an emphasis on recruiting top players from the South Florida area, so this looks like it will be a priority recruitment for Canes, but it won't be easy.

Even if Miami can continue to improve in Lucas' second season and take a lead on the in-state competition, the Hurricanes will still need to fight off some top tier out-of-state programs.

Currently, Miami doesn't have any commits in the 2027 class. There are only five total 2027 basketball commits in the ACC.
