Miami is not playing around with the 2026 quarterback situation.
The Hurricanes have identified former Cincinnati signal caller Brendan Sorsby as their top target and, according to the Miami Herald's Barry Jackson, they have already made an offer for the top-ranked quarterback in the transfer portal.
NEW: The transfer portal is now open for business, and the Canes have made an offer for Cincinnati's Brendan Sorsby, per source. He's considered by many to be top QB in portal; LSU and Texas Tech are formidable competition.https://t.co/1D8u1ZzUJq

PLUS more portal chatter;notes:
Sorsby has started for the Bearcats over the past two seasons and showed improvements in nearly every area on the field. He has consecutive seasons of at least 2,800 yards passing and has thrown 27 touchdowns with five interceptions this season.
The redshirt junior can also make plays through the running game. In his two seasons with Cincinnati, he has 1,027 yards and 18 touchdowns on 205 carries. Sorsby is a big athlete (6-foot-3, 235 pounds) with NFL upside, and he hopes to show he can take that next step at a bigger program.
Sorsby would continue Hurricanes trend of big-game hunting at QB
Miami is expected to go into the portal to get a starting quarterback for the third consecutive season. Cam Ward led the Hurricanes to a 10-3 record in 2024 and was the No. 1 overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft. Carson Beck came to Miami from Georgia for his sixth year of college football and the super senior has the Hurricanes in the CFP semifinals against Ole Miss.
Sorsby has 30 starts over three seasons with Indiana and Cincinnati. The Dallas native started his career with the Hoosiers under former coach Tom Allen and had an up-and-down season as a redshirt freshman, completing 57 percent of his passes for 1,587 yards and 16 touchdowns with five interceptions. He transferred out of Indiana when Allen was fired and replaced by Curt Cignetti.
Miami's offer is significant, but the Hurricanes will have competition. Before the portal opened, Sorsby's name was linked to Texas Tech, and we know that the Red Raiders aren't afraid to throw money around. LSU has also been mentioned as the Tigers are looking to compete for a championship under new coach Lane Kiffin.
But only one of those teams has shown consistent proof of concept with transfer quarterbacks, and that's Miami.
