Miami and Mario Cristobal stay in the race for 4-star CB Ca'ron Williams

Ca'ron "Prime" Williams, a four-star 2028 cornerback from Santa Margarita Catholic, trimmed his recruitment to LSU, Washington, UCLA, Texas, Cal, Texas A&M, Miami, USC, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon and Oklahoma. Williams is ranked as the No. 1 cornerback in California in the 2028 Rivals Industry Rankings.

No. 1 CB in California includes Miami in final 12 schools

The 6-foot, 170-pound junior from Moreno Valley plays in the Trinity League for Carson Palmer. In two high school seasons he has 92 tackles, seven pass breakups, four interceptions and a pick-six.

In the 2026 class and 2027 class (so far), Miami has had some success dipping into California and getting talented recruits to commit.

It makes sense because of the steps that the program has taken over the last two seasons. But recruiting wins like grabbing blue-chip recruits from across the country is impressive, even for a talented recruiter such as Mario Cristobal.

This type of recruiting isn't something to bank on, but the track record adds hope (and expectations) for the future.

2026 Miami commits out of California

• Four-star WR Vance Spafford, Mission Viejo (Tustin): Spafford decommitted from Georgia and signed with Miami. He has been one of the better freshman receivers in fall camp and could see the field this season.
• Four-star TE Israel Briggs, Redwood (Visalia): Briggs could see more playing time in a backup role than initially expected after Luka Gilbert suffered a season-ending injury.

2027 Miami commits out of California

• Five-star CB Donte Wright, Long Beach Poly: Wright Flipped from Georgia on May 9 and he is the No. 1 player in California and the No. 2 corner nationally in the Rivals Industry Rankings. Wright is probably the biggest California recruiting win for Miami.
• Four-star WR Eli Woodard, Chaparral (Riverside County): Miami beat out Cal and UCLA for Woodard.
