Miami and Mario Cristobal will soon learn their fate with high priority 4-star safety

Four-star Halls High School safety Jarrell Chandler will announce his commitment May 18 live on the Rivals YouTube channel.

He will choose between Miami, Tennessee, Clemson and Vanderbilt. Chandler is ranked as a top-95 prospect in the 2027 Rivals300 and is one of the top uncommitted safeties in the class.

Per Rivals, Chandler is the No. 91 overall recruit, the No. 6 safety and the No. 4 player in Tennessee. The Rivals Industry Ranking has Chandler at No. 306 nationally, the No. 29 safety and the No. 12 player in Tennessee.

The 247Sports Composite ranks Chandler at No. 319 nationally, the No. 31 safety and the No. 12 player in Tennessee.

Chandler visited Coral Gables soon after Miami offered in April, and the Hurricanes have gained ground with him after that first trip.

Chandler logged 94 total tackles during the 2025 season and 691 receiving yards on offense.

In his sophomore season he put up 55 tackles, seven pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and one interception.

Chandler is an in-state Tennessee target, and the Vols have been heavily involved in his recruitment. He has visited Tennessee multiple times, and his official visit to Knoxville is scheduled for the weekend of June 12. He also has an official visit to Clemson scheduled for May 29.

Miami's secondary commits in 2027 class

Miami just added five-star cornerback Donte Wright to its 2027 class, giving the Canes a top tier recruitment in the secondary. The Rivals Industry Ranking has Wright as the No. 8 overall prospect, No. 2 cornerback and No. 1 player in California.

He joins two local McArthur defensive backs already committed to the Hurricanes: safety Jaylyn Jones, who ranks No. 293 nationally, No. 28 at safety and No. 27 in Florida, and cornerback Sherrod Gourdine, who ranks No. 540 nationally, No. 60 at cornerback and No. 48 in Florida.
