Rivals recruiting analyst Chad Simmons has pointed to the Miami Hurricanes as a program to watch in the push for five-star Ohio State receiver commit Jamier Brown, a track-speed playmaker in the 2027 class who has been on Miami's radar for a while.
Brown is widely viewed as one of the top prospects in the 2027 cycle. He is listed at 5-foot-11, 185-pounds and has been committed to Ohio State since Nov. 23, 2024.
Miami working to flip 5-star Ohio State WR commit Jamier Brown
Ohio State's Brian Hartline, one of the faces of the Buckeyes' WR recruiting machine, left Columbus to become South Florida's head coach. Ohio State moved quickly and hired Cortez Hankton as its new wide receivers coach in early January.
The coaching change is important since Brown committed very early on in the process. Brown has been tied to Miami since he visited Coral Gables and built a connection with Hurricanes wide receivers coach Kevin Beard. Miami also had Brown on campus for a major recruiting weekend in September, when the Hurricanes hosted the Florida Gators.
Brown put up 73 catches for 1,009 yards and 10 touchdowns in his junior season. He also added return production that pushed him past 1,700 all-purpose yards and 16 total TDs. Brown is changing high schools ahead of his senior season, transferring from Wayne to Big Walnut in Ohio.
Brown's track times are also impressive, including a 10.36 in the 100 meters at the Adidas Track Nationals.
The Hurricanes will attempt to sell immediate opportunity in an offense that will be able to get him the ball. On the other hand, Ohio State has built a long-running reputation for developing wideouts into early NFL draft picks, and the Buckeyes already have their next WR coach in place to keep that pipeline rolling.
