No. 22 Miami turned one big inning into a comfortable 13-2 win over Lehigh on Friday night.

The tone was set early by right-hander AJ Ciscar, who gave the Hurricanes a steady start. Ciscar worked five innings and struck out seven, allowing five hits and two runs while throwing 86 pitches.

Miami defeats Lehigh 13-2

In the top of the third inning, the Mountain Hawks loaded the bases, and a misplay on a grounder let the game's first run score for a 1-0 lead.

With the game still within reach, Miami's lineup finally broke through in the bottom of the third. Max Galvin put the Hurricanes on the board with a two-run double, flipping the game after Lehigh had grabbed the first run.

Moments later, catcher Alex Sosa launched a three-run homer that blew the inning open and showed why the Hurricanes have come into the year with such high expectations.

After starter Liam O'Hearen worked through the first two innings, and Miami erupted in the third, the Mountain Hawks got a strong stretch from Christopher Nell, who struck out five in 2 1/3 scoreless innings.

Lehigh managed one more run in the sixth, but Miami's pitchers kept the Mountain Hawks from building any real momentum after that.

The Hurricanes added more separation late. In the eighth inning, Jake Ogden drove in a run with an RBI triple, and Galvin stayed in the middle of the action with another run-producing hit. Sosa capped his opening-night damage with an RBI single, giving him four runs driven in when you combine it with the earlier three-run shot.

Miami also got production from its bench, including a two-run RBI double by Cian Copeland and an additional RBI knock from Jalen Watkins as the lead ballooned.

Miami and Lehigh continue the weekend series Saturday at 6 p.m. and again Sunday at noon.
