Miami comeback falls short with late loss to Louisville in regular season finale

Miami rallied from a double-digit deficit by fell short to lose the final game of the regular season to Louisville.

Trailing by two points with eight seconds left, Tre Donaldson turned it over and Louisville made free throws to secure a 92-89 win over Miami in the final regular-season game on Saturday for both teams. Miami rallied from a 12-point deficit to take the lead late in the second half.

Louisville got off to a 13-2 lead to start the game and extended the advantage to its biggest lead at 29-17 in the first half. The Cardinals matched the 12-point first half lead and led 68-57 with 11:28 left in the second half. Miami took its first lead, 78-77, on a Donaldson layup with 3:48 left.

Malik Reneau extended the Miami lead to 81-78 with 3:07 left in the game. The Reneau layup ended an 11-1 Miami run. Louisville rallied and went ahead 82-81 on two Adrian Wooley free throws with 2:41 remaining. The last 5:11 were a one-possession game.

Both teams shot exceptionally well. Louisville shot 61.1 percent from the field and made 12 of its 24 three-point attempts. Miami shot 56.4 percent from the field and made eight out of 19 three-point attempts. The Hurricanes stayed in the game by making 19 of 23 free throw attempts, while Louisville was 14 of 21 from the line.

Donaldson led all scorers with 25 points, with 15 in the second half. Reneau finished with 18 points and also scored 15 in the second half. Ryan Conwell led Louisville with 24 points, with 18 in the first half. All six of Conwell's second-half points were from the free throw line.

Miami finished the regular season with 24 wins and seven losses overall and 13 victories and five defeats in the ACC. The Hurricanes are off until Thursday with a double bye in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals. Miami will play Syracuse, SMU, or Louisville in its first 2026 ACC Tournament game.
