A'mir Sears is already considered one of the best players in high school football, but Saturday's 33-28 win over top-ranked Bishop Gorman has now pushed the discourse to another level.

The Miami commit has three receiving touchdowns and three interceptions, and the Columbus Explorers are 2-0 after beating Miami Southridge and Bishop Gorman.
Sears has dominated in his first two games this season
Columbus opened the season on Aug. 21 with a 45-7 win over Southridge. Sears' first catch as an Explorer was a 38-yard touchdown on a screen pass from QB Kai Moore. By halftime he had two receptions for 50 yards, one TD, a tackle for loss on defense and no completions allowed in his coverage.
On Saturday, Bishop Gorman came in as No. 1 in the MaxPreps and ESPN polls after beating St. John Bosco. Columbus, unranked in most national polls, jumped to a 20-0 lead.
Sears intercepted a pass and, one play later, caught a 28-yard touchdown from Moore. He finished the game with five receptions for 67 yards and two touchdowns and three interceptions. And he did all of that while spending most of the third quarter on the sideline because he was cramping in both legs. Columbus outscored Bishop Gorman 10-0 while he was out and held on for the win after he returned.
That is three receiving touchdowns and three interceptions in two games. People are going to have to start talking about Sears being the top recruit in 2028. He was the No. 1 player in the 2028 class before he reclassified into 2027 this summer, and the 247Sports Composite now has him 11th.
Last season at West Broward he caught 42 passes for 942 yards and 11 touchdowns and added 61 tackles and three interceptions while taking a program that had never been a state power to the Class 6A title game.
