A'mir Sears' early domination of Bishop Gorman is a taste of what's coming to Miami next year

Now everyone in the nation is seeing what A'mir Sears is going to bring to the Miami Hurricanes next season.

After a lengthy rain delay, Sears has been putting on a show for Christopher Columbus against top-ranked Bishop Gorman. The top-rated athlete in the country had two touchdowns in the first half as the Explorers are leading Las Vegas powerhouse 23-15 going into the break.

Sears has been playing nearly every snap as expected and the team that MaxPreps considers the best in the country looks completely helpless in stopping him. 

A'mir Sears might be the best player in Miami's loaded 2027 class

There's a lot to like about Miami's recruiting class. With five commits reaching five-star status, there's a lot of talent at nearly every position. The likelihood of at least one or two commits doing something spectacular on Friday night this season is extremely high. We've already seen  5-star wide receiver Nick Lennear make some amazing plays, and we've seen four-star offensive lineman Sean Tatum send opposing defenders into space. 

But Sears seems like he's at another level. Remember this kid is supposed to be a junior this year and just reclassified to the 2027 class about a month ago. Seeing a top player like Sears dominate local competition isn't a surprise. Even with the talent pool as deep as it is in Miami-Dade and Broward counties, 5-star talent is usually going to shine through.

However, Sears is how here dominating a team with about 15 major college football prospects. Nearly everyone on Gorman's starting offense and defense is going to be playing in FBS football. But Sears has made them look like the junior varsity.

Again, it makes you wonder what Sears' future is with the Hurricanes. The comparisons to Travis Hunter can't be ignored. But Colorado needed Hunter to play both ways. The Buffaloes didn't have the depth of talent for him to focus on one side of the ball. MIami has that kind of talent, but at the same time, the idea of getting Sears snaps at wide receiver and secondary is very tantalizing. I mean imagine him on the field lining up across from Malachi Toney next year? Who is the defense going to cover?

Or maybe he'll be joining Bryce Fitzgerald and fellow five-star recruit Donte Wright in the Hurricanes' ball-hawking backfield? But why can't he do both? Miami has had many, many great players come through the program. Players that have gone on to have Hall of Fame careers and won multiple championships in college and the NFL. But they haven't had too many guys that can do what Sears appears capable of doing. 

Hopefully, Columbus can hold on in the second half and pull off one of the best upsets in the high school football season. But Sears has already shown everyone that he's ready for the big time and isn't backing down from any challenges.
