5-star commit Nick Lennear is bringing all the smoke to his opponents this season

Nick Lennear is welcoming all those that want to challenge him on the football field.

The five-star Miami Hurricanes commit joined his Carol City team in Daytona Beach this past Friday for a 38-3 dispatch of Mainland High. Despite the lopsided score, Mainland has been known for putting some solid prospects on the field, and it was no surprise that their defensive backs were going to target Lennear all game.

Lennear expected them to try and get physical with him, and he was more than happy to return the favor. And to remind everyone why Lennear is the prospect he is, the 12th-ranked overall recruit in the 2027 class snagged a one-handed touchdown catch on a corner route in the back of the end zone.

Look at the footwork, the concentration and the fact that the player covering him did an exceptional job, but it wasn't enough because Lennear was simply too good.

The physical stuff came was there all game and the Instagram account of 305 Sports documented much of it. There you can see the Mainland defensive backs trying to get Lennear out of his game with the rough stuff, but he doesn't flinch. And the end clip of him bullying the cornerback through the end zone on a run play shows the kiind of competitor that he is.

Lennear is the type of player that Hurricanes football has been built on over the years. Yes, the program's spotlight receivers, like Michael Irvin, Santana Moss and Andre Johnson, were all extremely talented and nearly impossible to stop. But they were also tough as nails. They liked to mix it up with the defensive backs and played with a noticeable edge.

When you're a five-star prospect, the target is on your back every Friday night. Every player that lines up across from Lennear is looking to make a name for themselves. A big game covering one of the nation's top wide receivers could lead to a buzz that results in scholarship offers. Lennear understands that he's going to hear trash talk and players are going to try to do whatever it takes to gain any sort of advantage on him that will give them a highlight clip to show college scouts. 

And this is a show of respect. These opposing players wouldn't target Lennear and go after him if they didn't think he was good. This is also a good sign about the type of mentality Lennear will be bringing with him to Coral Gables next year. If you notice he wasn't whining to the officials about the player holding on to him and grabbing him. He didn't even complain when the flag was thrown, because he knew that it's usually the last guy that gets caught in this sort of altercation.

But Lennear wasn't going to back down and, in the end, he and his team got the last laugh.
