Donte Wright was named Rivals' MVP and the No. 1 Day 1 performer at The Opening Finals in Beaverton, Oregon. The Miami commit finished ahead of a group that included Louisville receiver Ja'Hyde Brown, safety Adryan Cole, Texas receiver Easton Royal and Georgia tight end Jaxon Dollar. The recognition came during the first day of Nike's national showcase, which returned this year after a six-year hiatus.

The Opening brought together more than 100 prospects from the 2027, 2028 and 2029 recruiting classes after regional events were held across the country.

Rivals ranks Wright No. 14 nationally, No. 3 among cornerbacks and No. 1 in California. After the showcase, Wright could see his rankings rise even further up the board in the 2027 class.

Wright had been committed to the Bulldogs for nearly a year before Miami beat out Oregon, UCLA and other programs for the California defensive back.

In seven games last season, he recorded 25 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, seven pass breakups and a forced fumble. He also had 23 tackles, five pass breakups and an interception as a sophomore.

Quarterback Israel Abrams, running back Ty Keys and edge rusher Jayvon Dawson joined Wright in Beaverton, giving the Hurricanes four commits at Nike's revived national showcase. Abrams earned Day 1 morning eye-catcher recognition from Rivals, while Dawson captained 247Sports' All-Lobby Team following check-in.
