Donte Wright, Miami's five-star cornerback commit from Long Beach Poly in California, reacted to four-star wide receiver Eli Woodard's decommitment from USC in a way that Miami fans will love.

Wright said, "Mario is going to hit the Nick Saban era again," and also made it clear he is recruiting other top high school prospects to join him in Coral Gables.

Donte Wright gives Miami more than just a 5-star corner

The Rivals Industry Ranking has Wright as the No. 8 overall prospect, No. 2 cornerback and No. 1 player in California.

A lower-ranked commit saying Miami is building something can be useful, but a top-10 national prospect saying it carries more weight. Wright has already gone through the process with Georgia, Miami, Oregon and other major programs pushing for him, and he knows how to sell Miami from the inside.

Woodard, a four-star wide receiver from Chaparral High School in Temecula, California, backed off his USC commitment after originally making his decision to join the Trojans in February. The Rivals Industry Ranking has him at No. 169 overall, No. 25 among wide receivers and No. 16 in California.

Miami was quickly linked to his reopened recruitment, and the Hurricanes got him on campus for an official visit.

Miami flipped Wright, a California defensive back, from Georgia. And now the Hurricanes are trying to make a move for Woodard, a California receiver who just left USC's class.

Now, nobody at Miami should be compared directly to Nick Saban's Alabama run just yet. That was the best recruiting machine college football has ever seen.

Cristobal has always been known as a relentless recruiter. That reputation followed him from Alabama to Oregon and then to Miami.

With the Hurricanes taking a major step on the field last season, the 2027 class is going to reflect that momentum.
