Rueben Bain, a standout defensive end for the Miami Hurricanes, is diligently preparing for a dominant 2025 campaign. Recognized for his relentless work ethic and leadership qualities, Bain has been instrumental in elevating the Hurricanes' defensive line.

But after a freshman campaign where Bain burst onto the scene with 7.5 sacks and 45 pressure, his sophomore season left something to be desired. Primarily due to a hamstring injury suffered just three snaps into the season which kept him out until week 6, Bain never found his groove. After returning from the injury in 2024, he registered 3.5 sacks and 28 pressures and did not look like the same player.

In anticipation of the upcoming season, Bain has focused on his physical condition and working to return to his "original" form. Coming out of highschool Bain weighed 250 pounds but in 2024 his playing weight was 280 pounds. He is looking to get under that 280 mark when the season kicks off in the fall.

Beyond his physical attributes, Bain has embraced a leadership role within the team. His journey from a promising freshman to a team leader is the type of experience that allows for him to guide the younger players. Defensive end Hayden Lowe, who was a five-star prospect, is one of the players who will look to Bain for guidance. But after the first couple spring practices, it was Bain who was impressed with Lowe.

"That man [Lowe] is crazy," Bain said. "He goes 1000 miles per hour at all times. He has young legs and a young body. He is running around and hitting people. He is going to be a good player."

With Bain's return to form and leadership, the defense is poised for a formidable 2025-26 season. His ability to disrupt opposing offenses and mentor younger players positions Miami to be a competitive force once again.
