Mayfield took an official visit to Miami on May 29 and the Hurricanes hosted him multiple times during the process.
Mayfield put up 152 total tackles, 125 solo tackles, six sacks, six forced fumbles and one fumble recovery during the 2025 season. He also contributed on offense, rushing for 343 yards and finishing with 13 total touchdowns.
The Hurricanes hold commitments from A.J. Randle Jr. and Noah Glover, two Rivals300 linebackers. Rivals has Randle as the No. 57 overall player, No. 5 linebacker and No. 5 player in North Carolina. Glover is listed as the No. 208 overall player, No. 18 linebacker and No. 4 player in Virginia.
For the 2026 class, Miami signed Justin "JJ" Edwards as their true off-ball linebacker, while Jordan Campbell arrived as more of a linebacker/edge hybrid. Edwards was ranked No. 746 nationally and No. 65 among linebackers in the Rivals Industry Ranking, while Campbell was a much higher-rated front-seven piece at No. 229 nationally and No. 28 among edge rushers.Â
