Cornerback Robert Stafford, linebacker Bobby Washington and defensive back Robby Washington were initially the only Miami defensive players to enter the transfer portal when it opened on December 9. Multiple reports since then have indicated Bobby will remain at Miami.

Miami will likely lose players following The Pop-Tarts Bowl versus Iowa State on December 28. Players participating in the College Football Playoff have five days after their teams are eliminated to enter the winter transfer portal. The spring transfer portal window is April 16 through the 25.

Miami has lost seven players to the transfer portal. In addition to Stafford and the Washingtons, quarterback Reese Poffenbarger, offensive lineman Antonio Tripp, running backs Ajay Allen and Chris Johnson, wide receiver Isaiah Horton and kicker Ronald Daragjati have also entered the portal.

The tracker for Miami offensive players entering the transfer portal can be found here. Miami added Jacksonville State safety, Zechariah Poyser on December 17 and LSU WR C.J. Daniels on December 18 to its 2025 roster. Miami is pursuing multiple highly sought-after transfers for 2025.

Bobby and Robby Washington were never able to completely break into the rotation for Miami. Bobby had seven tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks in 14 games over two seasons. Robby had two receptions for 27 yards in 2023 before moving to defense and recording three tackles in seven games in 2024.

Stafford was a four-star signee in 2023 who struggled to find defensive snaps. After not receiving any playing time as a true freshman in 2023, Stafford had seven tackles, one pass breakup and one pass defended in 2024 per his official Miami biography.

Miami has not lost any impact players or starters from its 2024 defense. In addition to the defensive players Miami loses in the transfer portal, seven on the two-deep depth chart are out of eligibility after the Pop-Tarts Bowl versus Iowa State. Miami has already been busy targeting transfer defensive backs.
