Miami freshman wide receiver Joshua Moore became the first Hurricane since Stacy Coley in 2013 with two first-quarter touchdown receptions. The Moore TDs, which were the first of his career set Miami off and rolling with a 14-0 lead in a 49-12 win over South Florida.
Moore, who entered the game against South Florida with three receptions for 15 yards, doubled his 2025 output with a trio of catches for 61 yards on three targets, with 22 yards after the catch and the two end zone trips. Moore was one of five Miami receivers with at least 56 receiving yards versus USF.
The two first-quarter touchdowns by Coley in 2013 came 3:30 into the game in a 41-31 win over Pittsburgh. Coley had three receptions for 73 yards and two TDs and added a 73-yard touchdown run. Coley also recorded the two first-quarter TD receptions as a true freshman.
The 2013 Miami win over Pittsburgh came in the final game of the regular season. Coley also had his breakout game with four receptions for 96 yards as Miami beat South Florida 49-21 in the third game of the 2013 season. Coley finished his true freshman season with 33 receptions for 591 yards and seven TDs.

Moore and fellow freshman wide receiver Malachi Toney have bright futures for Miami. Toney leads Miami with 18 receptions for 228 yards and one TD this season. Moore has six receptions for 76 yards and two TDs.
After having to replace their top six receivers from 2024, Miami should have a foundation at WR in 2026 if Moore and Toney return as expected as opposed to entering the transfer portal. Miami will lose WRs C.J. Daniels, Tony Johnson and Keelan Marion after the 2025 season.
At 6'4 Moore provides Miami quarterback Carson Beck with a big target. Expect Moore to continue thriving in the red zone as a mismatch for shorter defensive backs trying to cover him as the season progresses.
