Miami will be without star third baseman Daniel Cuvet, who is out indefinitely with a stress fracture in his back, according to head coach J.D. Arteaga via Andrew Riedell of College Baseball Central. Sebastian Font of Canes Insight reported that pitcher Rob Evans will return Sunday at North Carolina State.

Cuvet was out for the three-game series against California this past weekend after having his wisdom teeth pulled. Before missing the series against California, Cuvet had played in all 41 Miami games this season with 40 starts.

Cuvet is hitting .305 with a .437 on-base percentage, .649 slugging percentage and a 1.086 OPS with 14 doubles, one triple,12 home runs and 45 runs batted in. With Cuvet out last week, freshman Gabriel Milano started in all four Miami games.

In his most extensive playing time this season, Milano had five hits in 15 at-bats with a solo HR in the 5-4 Miami win at Florida Atlantic on April 22. Milano will likely be the starting third baseman for Miami with Cuvet out.

Good news for Evans

Per Font, "ace Rob Evans confirms with me that he will return this Sunday to start against NC State. The lefty suffered a bone bruise and ankle sprain last Friday against Cal. A much better outcome than feared." Evans pitched 2.2 innings, allowing four runs, two earned on three hits, two HRs, with three strikeouts.

Evans took the loss for Miami as California beat the Hurricanes 9-2 in the series opener on Friday night at Mark Light Field at Alex Rodiguez Park. Miami does not have a mid-week game. With Miami off until Friday at NC State, Arteaga can access his rotation on Friday and Saturday with Evans starting Sunday.

Lazaro Collera pitched 5.2 innings as the starter for Miami on Saturday against California. A.J. Ciscar pitched 7.2 innings, allowing 10 hits with no walks and seven strikeouts to earn the win for Miami on Sunday. Evans has eight wins and two losses with a 3.05 earned run average, 1.05 WHIP with 69 strikeouts in 59 innings in 2026.
