Miami wins 6th consecutive series with 2 victories against Cal this weekend

Miami won two of three games against California this weekend for its sixth consecutive series victory.

Miami won its sixth consecutive series by defeating California on Saturday and Sunday in Coral Gables. The Hurricanes won 4-1 on Sunday after a 4-3 win on Saturday night and 9-2 loss on Friday. Starting pitcher A.J. Ciscar had a dominant performance on Sunday to lead Miami.

Ciscar pitched 7.2 innings, allowing one earned run on 10 hits, with no walks and seven strikeouts to improve to 4-3. Lyndon Glidewell pitched the final 1.1 innings with three strikeouts to earn his second save this season.

Gabriel Milano started this weekend at third base for Miami with Daniel Cuvet out due to getting his wisdom teeth pulled. Milano had two runs batted in on Sunday to lead the Hurricanes' offense. Alex Sosa had a two-run single to drive home the other two Miami runs on Sunday,

California scored all the runs they needed Lwith a three-run first inning on Friday night. The Golden Bears added single runs in the second and fourth innings and two each in the sixth and seventh. Miami scored runs in the first and third innings.

California power surge

Jett Kenady hit two of the five home runs for California on Friday night and drove in three runs. Lawson Olmstead, Cade Campbell and Daniel Murillo also had HRs for Cal on Friday. Derek Williams drove in both Miami runs on Friday with a sacrifice fly and a single.

Miami flipped the script in the first inning on Saturday. Kenady continued his hot streak against Miami with a double to drive in Hideki Prather in the top of the first inning. A three-run Alex Sosa HR in the bottom of the first put Miami in front 3-1.

Cal tied in the top of the fifth with a Prather double that scored Ethan Kodama. Max Galvin walked on four consecutive pitches to drive in Dylan Dubovik with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning and earn the walkoff win for the Hurricanes. Miami improved to 32-12 overall and 12-9 in the ACC with the win.

Miami accomplished six consecutive series wins for the first time since 2014. The Hurricanes do not play until next weekend. North Carolina State hosts Miami for a three-game series from Friday through Sunday next week. Florida State, currently a half game ahead of Miami, plays at Stanford on Sunday afternoon.
