Miami Hurricanes earn No. 3 seed in ACC tournament
Duke claimed the No. 1 seed after winning the ACC regular-season title at 17-1 in conference play, while Virginia took the No. 2 seed at 15-3. North Carolina grabbed the No. 4 seed, giving the Blue Devils, Cavaliers, Hurricanes and Tar Heels the tournament's four double byes. That top-four placement is a big deal for Miami because it does not have to play until Thursday afternoon, which gives the Hurricanes extra rest and leaves them two wins from the title game.
Miami will open at 2:30 p.m. Thursday against the winner of Wednesday's second-round game between No. 6 Louisville and the winner of No. 11 SMU vs. No. 14 Syracuse. That puts a possible Louisville rematch on the table after the Cardinals beat Miami 92-89 on Saturday in Coral Gables to close the regular season. Tre Donaldson scored 25 points in the loss, while the Hurricanes still held onto the No. 3 seed and their quarterfinal slot.
