Hurricanes left fielder Max Galvin is expected to miss about six weeks after suffering a foot injury, a setback that pulls a proven bat and steady defender out of a lineup that opened 5-0. Miami coach J.D. Arteaga announced the timetable Thursday.Â
Miami coach JD Arteaga just announced that senior outfielder Max Galvin will miss the next 6-8 weeks with a foot fracture. The 23-year-old hit .313/.372/.496 with eight home runs and 18 doubles last year. Expect sophomore Fabio Peralta to get more run in the lineup as a result.

Hurricanes LF Max Galvin will miss 6-8 weeks with foot fracture
Galvin was injured Tuesday night in Miami's 13-inning, 8-7 comeback win over UCF. He was hurt during an at-bat in the 10th inning. The injury is a broken fifth metatarsal and Galvin is set to undergo surgery at UHealth Doral.
A six-week estimate would push a return into early April, and could cost Galvin roughly the next 25 games.
Galvin has been one of Miami's most reliable everyday pieces since arriving in Coral Gables. A Bradenton, Fla., native and redshirt senior, he posted a strong 2025 season for the Hurricanes, starting 60 games and hitting .313 with 54 runs, 15 doubles, four triples, four home runs and 40 RBIs. He also carried a .988 fielding percentage.
Galvin started Miami's first four games in 2026 and was batting .278 with two doubles and six RBIs before the injury.
Sophomore outfielder Fabio Peralta started in Galvin's place in Wednesday night’s 6-2 win over Indiana State.
Right-hander Nick Robert and left-hander Frank Menendez are also dealing with injuries and are eyeing returns sometime next month.
The Hurricanes will try to keep the momentum rolling this weekend when they open a four-game series against Lafayette. First pitch for Friday's opener is set for 7 p.m. at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field, with the series highlighted by a Saturday doubleheader.
Miami's lineup has shown some early pop and late-game toughness through the first week. Now the challenge is doing it without one of its most dependable outfielders for the next month-plus.
