On3 national recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong has logged an expert prediction for Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes to land elite running back Myson Johnson-Cook. Johnson-Cook is ranked No. 40 nationally and No. 3 among running backs in the 2027 cycle in the Rivals Industry Ranking.

Miami is making a run at 4-star RB Myson Johnson-Cook

Miami is the clear favorite for Johnson-Cook in On3's recruiting machine at 92.2%, with Ole Miss and Auburn trailing well behind.

Johnson-Cook has made multiple recent trips to Coral Gables, including a return visit during spring ball after first getting an in-depth look at the program in early March. He has now been to Miami twice in roughly six weeks, with another trip planned to come in May.

Johnson-Cook is a big back (6-foot-1 and 220 pounds) with track speed. He has posted a wind-legal 10.45 in the 100 meters. On the football side, he rushed for 1,341 yards and 20 touchdowns on 126 carries at East St. Louis last season, good for 10.6 yards per carry. The year before at DeSoto in Texas, he ran for 911 yards and 14 touchdowns on just 88 carries, another 10.4-yard average, while adding a receiving score. Across the last two seasons, he has put up 2,252 rushing yards and 34 rushing touchdowns.

Johnson-Cook's official visit to Miami is scheduled for May 29, with Auburn set to get him a week later and Ole Miss later in June, so there is still time left in the process. But right now, the trend line points heavily toward Coral Gables.

Miami just recently picked up a big recruiting win in the 2027 class with the commitment of QB Israel Abrams. Abrams is ranked as the No. 2 QB in the 2027 class and will compete with Dereon Coleman to become the QB of the future after Darian Mensah's time in Miami is over.
