What's next for Mario Cristobal? Well, the Miami Hurricanes need to pursue veteran transfer wide receivers with Georgia quarterback Carson Beck now committed. Beck entered the transfer portal on Thursday and he then reportedly signed on Friday. Miami currently has a very inexperienced and young WR corps.
LSU transfer C.J. Daniels is the only experienced WR on the 2025 Miami roster. Daniels has 148 receptions for 2,439 yards and 22 touchdowns over four seasons at Liberty and one at LSU. Miami lost its four most productive WRs off of its 2024 roster.
The returning WRs on the Miami roster combined for 13 receptions for 173 yards and one TD in 2024. Rising sophomore JoJo Trader had three receptions for 61 yards, which included a 40-yard TD in the Pop-Tarts Bowl loss to Iowa State. Ny Carr and Chance Robinson were other 2024 WR signees expected to have a lot of potential.

Miami also returns RayRay Joseph as the projected starting slot receiver in 2025. The Hurricanes signed 6-4 WR Josh Moore, versatile slot receiver Malachi Toney and Daylyn Upshaw at WR in the 2025 class. It would be challenging to enter the 2025 season with seven of the Miami eight scholarship WRs with one year or less of collegiate experience.

Most of the top transfer WRs have already committed to other schools. Following their elimination last night, Penn State players have a handful of days to enter the transfer portal, as will the loser of Ohio State and Texas. Players on the teams in the National Championship will have five days after their season ends to enter the transfer portal.
Miami might have to wait and see who enters the transfer portal at WR from the four College Football Playoff semifinalists and in the spring. Sam Brown transferred to Miami from Houston during the spring 2024 transfer portal. Adding depth and experienced WRs is critical for Miami entering the 2025 season, especially after this huge Beck news just dropped. The top priority for Cristobal moving forward is no question to target wideouts for this offense.
