Miami in position to snag 2028 5-star OT
Tonata, a 6-foot-5, 315-pound lineman from Orem (Utah) High, ranks as the No. 1 offensive tackle and No. 13 overall prospect in the 2028 class in the Rivals Industry Rankings. He also holds five-star or high four-star grades across other services and is the top-ranked player in Utah.
Wiltfong's prediction, logged Monday with a 60% confidence level, comes as Tonata prepares for his second visit to Coral Gables this weekend for Miami's game against Florida State. He previously visited and camped with the Hurricanes in mid-June, working with offensive line coach Alex Mirabal.
Miami currently holds a 97.1% share in the Recruiting Prediction Machine for Tonata, well ahead of any other school.
While it might seem unlikely for Miami to secure an elite player out of Utah, Tonata has expressed his desire to go to the East Coast.
"I want to go outside of the West Coast. I want to go to the East Coast, and Miami caught my attention. A lot of good competitors out here, and I know I got better. West Coast to the East Coast, I know it's a little bit different. I worked some things out and got better."Maui Tonata after camp visit in June
He also spoken positively about the coaching staff during his visit back in June of this summer.
"I love the coaching staff, I love the facilities and all the players here, the atmosphere, the people here especially."Maui Tonata
