The University of Miami's football program has secured a significant commitment for its 2026 recruiting class with the addition of offensive lineman Joel Ervin. A native of Fort Myers, Florida, Ervin brings impressive size and skill to the Hurricanes' future offensive line.

Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing over 300 pounds, Ervin has been a standout at Fort Myers High School. His performance on the offensive line has garnered attention from several top programs. Prior to committing to Miami, Ervin had a previous commitment to Louisville. However, after reconsideration and subsequent visits, he announced his decision to join the Hurricanes, stating, "I'm home. Shutting down my recruitment."

Ervin is recognized as a three-star prospect, ranked as a No. 100 player in Florida and the No. 60 offensive tackle nationally. Ervin's performance in his junior year earned him a spot on The News-Press 2024 All-Area Offensive First Team. His contributions helped his high school to their first district title since 2019. The team's offense averaged over 300 yards per game.

Initially, Ervin committed to Louisville on March 8, 2025, but after unofficial visits to both Miami and Florida State, he reconsidered his decision. On Saturday morning, Ervin posted a photo from the Hurricanes' practice facility, by the evening, he announced his commitment to the Hurricanes. He was slated to take official visits to Kentucky, Florida, and USC later this summer, but it appears those visits might not take place anymore.

Ervin's commitment marks a significant addition to Miami's 2026 recruiting efforts. His size and versatility on the offensive line are expected to bolster the Hurricanes' depth and performance in the trenches. Head coach Mario Cristobal and his staff have emphasized strengthening the offensive line, and securing a talent like Ervin aligns with their strategic goals.

While the 2026 recruiting class is still in its early stages, Ervin's pledge sets a positive tone. His decision may also influence other top prospects to consider Miami, especially those within Florida.
