The Washington Commanders inducted former Miami Hurricanes star Santana Moss into the Ring of Fame during Sunday’s Sept. 7 season opener against the New York Giants.

The honor cements what Moss was for Washington after arriving from the Jets in 2005. Across 10 seasons in D.C., Moss recorded 581 receptions, 7,867 receiving yards and 47 touchdowns. Those totals place him third in franchise history in catches, fourth in receiving yards and seventh in receiving TDs. His first year remains one of the most explosive single seasons in team history. In 2005, Moss recorded 84 grabs for a franchise-record 1,483 yards and nine touchdowns. For his NFL career, Moss had 732 career receptions for 10,283 yards and 66 touchdowns.

Moss arrived at UM in 1997 as a walk-on and then rewrote the program’s record book. He left as the school’s all-time leader in receiving yards (2,546), punt-return yards (1,196), all-purpose yards (4,394) and finished seventh in the 2000 Heisman vote while earning consensus All-America honors. In that same 2000 season, he pulled a rarity the Big East had never seen — being named both Offensive and Special Teams Player of the Year — while setting league marks for season (655) and career (1,196) punt-return yards and tying the NCAA single-season record with four punt-return touchdowns.
