It all stems from the current 247Sports Composite Florida rankings which have the Hurricanes connected to the top three players in the state.
The 247 Composite rankings list Matthews as the No. 1 player in the state, the No. 3 overall prospect nationally and the No. 1 offensive tackle in the class. Miami commit Nick Lennear sits No. 2 in Florida and No. 12 nationally, while Henderson is No. 3 in Florida, No. 24 nationally and the No. 1 linebacker in the country.
As of today, Miami is projected to be in the lead (per 247) for Matthews and Henderson. Pairing those players with Lennear — who is committed to Miami — would be a monumental win for the Canes.

Alabama, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Texas A&M are battling for the No. 3 overall LB in the 2027 classhttps://t.co/GB4jWvvPMG pic.twitter.com/oSsXRRGhdI
Henderson has his recruitment down to five schools: Alabama, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Texas A&M.
He is one of the top linebackers in the country and logged 49 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and nine sacks as a junior in 2025, even though he missed five games because of injury.
Henderson wrapped up a two-day visit with the Hurricanes after 305 Day and came away feeling strongly about Miami after spending time with Mario Cristobal, the staff and the program. Matthews and Lennear were also in attendance for 305 Day festivities. Lennear ended up committing to the Hurricanes on Thursday night, so it seems like the Miami staff made a lasting impression on a ton of top recruits.
The Hurricanes currently sit No. 7 nationally and No. 1 (per Rivals/On3) in the ACC with five commitments in the class, all from Florida.
