Stone's decision to transfer comes after a freshman season where he saw limited playing time, totaling 88 snaps. Despite this, he was expected to have a more significant role in his sophomore year, with Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables recently praising him as the Sooners' most improved defensive tackle this offseason.
The 6-foot-3, 313-pound lineman hails from Oklahoma City and finished his high school career at IMG Academy in Florida. He was a significant recruiting victory for Oklahoma, choosing the Sooners over other top programs, including Miami and Michigan State.
Stone's entry into the transfer portal has generated significant interest, given his high school pedigree and potential. However due to SEC rules, he would need to sit out the 2025 season if he transfers to another SEC program.
Miami was a strong contender in Stone's original recruitment. He made multiple visits to Coral Gables, including an official visit in June 2023. Stone expressed that Miami was a "family favorite," noting that the coaching staff made a significant impression on his family.
As the spring transfer window remains open until April 25, Stone's next destination remains to be seen. But, his departure is a notable loss for Oklahoma's defensive line depth and a potential gain for programs seeking to boost their interior defense. With Miami experiencing departures on the defensive line from the current transfer portal window, Stone could fill a crucial need. His familiarity with the program and previous interest in Miami make the Hurricanes a logical destination.
