CJ Cypher, one of the most sought-after quarterbacks in the 2029 class, announced his verbal commitment to Miami on June 24 after a freshman season at Carrollton High School that put him on the national recruiting radar. Cypher chose the Hurricanes over offers from Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State and others. Cypher is Miami's first commitment in the 2029 class.

Miami lands one of Georgia's best young quarterbacks
Cypher led the Trojans to a 14-1 record and reached the GHSA Class 6A championship game in 2025. Carrollton entered the title game as the No. 2 team in the state before falling 28-21 to Buford at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Cypher completed 144 of 201 passes for 2,178 yards, 26 touchdowns and three interceptions as a freshman.
Major national services have not yet released full 2029 rankings, but the early interest from schools across the country makes it clear that Miami has snagged one of the premier young passers in the state of Georgia.
Cypher made two June visits to Miami, including the Hurricanes' annual Legends Camp. He worked with offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson and spent time receiving instruction from former Miami quarterback Gino Torretta.
Miami now has a quarterback commit in three consecutive future classes. The Hurricanes already have 2027 quarterback Israel Abrams committed and 2028 quarterback Knox Annis in the fold. Cypher is now the first commit in the class of 2029.
Cypher's cousin and Carrollton teammate Kweli Fielder also committed to Miami on the same day. Fielder is one of the top offensive tackle prospects in the country for the class of 2028. He measures in at 6-foot-4 and 325 pounds.
Cypher still has years before he arrives in Coral Gables, but for now, Miami has earned the commitment from a young prospect who could be the future QB in the 2030s.
