Miami swung big for one of the top national players in the 2027 class, but the Hurricanes came up short Monday when five-star running back Kemon Spell committed to the Georgia Bulldogs.

Spell, a 5-foot-10, 210-pound back out of Pennsylvania, chose Georgia over Penn State, Notre Dame, Ohio State and the Miami.

Spell is rated the No. 1 running back in the 2027 class on the 247Sports Composite, and he is the No. 1 RB in 2027 on all major recruiting sites.

Spell erupted in the playoffs with 280-yard and 274-yard rushing performances, only confirming his potential at the next level.

Miami's 2027 class still looks strong and with recent on-field success for the Canes, Cristobal and his staff should be able to put together another top class.

  • Demarcus Deroche (ATH), Cardinal Gibbons (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)
  • Ah'Mari Stevens (WR), Chaminade-Madonna Prep (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)
  • Jaylyn Jones (S), McArthur (Davie, Fla.)
  • Zaquan Linton (OT), Palm Beach Central (West Palm Beach, Fla.)

Miami Hurricanes' current running back room

With Mark Fletcher Jr. returning and not going to the NFL, and Girard Pringle Jr. coming back to Miami after briefly entering the transfer portal, the Miami RB room will be at full strength in 2026. Perhaps that was a potential factor when Spell was weighing his options. Below are the running backs who produced for Miami in 2025.

  • Mark Fletcher: 216 carries, 1,192 rushing yards (5.52 YPC), 12 rushing TDs, 17 catches, 140 receiving yards, two receiving TDs.
  • CharMar Brown: 122 carries, 474 rushing yards (3.89 YPC), seven rushing TDs, 20 catches, 138 receiving yards, two receiving TDs.
  • Girard Pringle: 62 carries, 375 rushing yards (6.05 YPC), four rushing TDs, four catches, 53 receving yards, one receiving TD.
  • Jordan Lyle: 35 carries, 108 rushing yards (3.09 YPC), one rushing TD, three catches, 22 receiving yards.
  • Chris Wheatley-Humphrey: 22 carries, 108 rushing yards (4.91 YPC).
