Miami fell behind 4-0, rallied to take an 11-9 lead and held its last lead at 13-12 as Georgia Tech surged to a 46-30 halftime lead on their way to a 89-74 win over Miami on Tuesday night in Atlanta. Matthew Cleveland tried to keep Miami in the game during the first half scoring 15 and led Miami with 29.
Austin Swartz complemented Cleveland by scoring 10 in the first half and finishing with 14. Lance Terry led Georgia Tech with 15 in the first half and finished with 31 points on 12-19 from the floor and 6-11 from three-point range. Baye Ndongo finished with 22 points and eight rebounds.
The game was never in doubt in the second half as Georgia Tech maintained at least a 16-point lead. Georgia Tech held its largest lead at 84-58 with 6:32 remaining in the game. It was another decisive loss for Miami during a lost season. Georgia Tech dominated in nearly every category.
Georgia Tech shot 54.5 percent from the field, made 10-23 three-point attempts, outrebounded Miami 43-27 and had a 22-10 advantage in second-chance points. Miami shot 44.3 from the floor and made 5-22 three-point attempts while holding the lead for only one minute on Tuesday night.

Brandon Johnson had a good second half for Miami scoring all 16 of his points. Cleveland, Johnson and Swartz were the only three Miami players to finish in double-figures. Four Georgia Tech players finished in double figures led by Terry and Ndongo. Duncan Powell added 16 points and Naithan George scored 10 points with 11 assists and seven rebounds.
Miami will host North Carolina State in the final game of the season on Saturday at Noon on the WB. The next question will be when will the expected hiring of Duke assistant coach Jai Lucas occur as the next head coach for Miami. Michelle Kaufman of the Miami Herald reported Lucas could be named head coach as early as next week.
