Miami makes top 10 after Tallahassee 4-star CB cuts Florida State and Florida

Miami remains in the race for one of Florida's better defensive backs in the 2028 class after Kahmaree Crumity cut his list to 10 schools Thursday.

Crumity, a 6-foot, 173-pound cornerback from Tallahassee, included Miami alongside Tennessee, Louisville, Auburn, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Clemson, UCLA, Indiana and Ole Miss. The Hurricanes made the list over a large group of programs that included Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Oklahoma and Oregon.

Crumity is a Tallahassee prospect, yet the Seminoles did not survive his first major cut. Florida also missed the top 10 despite being one of the early programs connected to his recruitment.

247Sports ranks him at No. 40 among cornerbacks and No. 51 in the state. Rivals ranks Crumity ranks No. 279 nationally, No. 32 at cornerback and No. 39 in Florida.

Miami has not yet added a defensive back in its 2028 class. The Hurricanes currently have two commitments in the cycle: quarterback Knox Annis and offensive tackle Kweli Fielder.

The Hurricanes already have high-end defensive back talent in the 2027 class, including five-star cornerback Donte Wright Jr. and elite cornerback Ai'King Hall.

Florida's 2028 class includes four-star Chaminade-Madonna wide receiver Armani Strong, a South Florida prospect who chose the Gators over Miami, Florida State, Notre Dame and USC. Strong is Florida's only 2028 commitment so far, but he gives Jon Sumrall’s staff an early building block. Rivals Industry ranks the 6-foot-1, 180-pound receiver No. 210 nationally, No. 31 at his position and No. 29 in Florida.

Florida State's 2028 class currently consists of one player as well: athlete Chayse Brown. He committed June 11 and the Seminoles are recruiting him as a defensive back. Rivals ranks the 6-foot-2, 165-pound Brown as the No. 25 athlete in the 2028 class and the No. 90 prospect in Florida.
